Mcafee. Accessible with newer builds of JAWS from JAWS 7 onward, though you do have to highlight all the buttons before right clicking on them with a mouse, but it has everything you could wish for. Disk clean up, difrag, spyware, virtual technition and its own firewall, all in one package. It'll cost around $120 per subscription per year, but it is just, so effective. When it's in full working order, no virus stands a chance.

You can also try Avast if you don't want to pay for it. You will have to register, and they'll send you a key. But it has virus and spyware protection. It's also fairly Jaws accessible. I've just started using it though, but I haven't had any problems with it.

Ok, hedwig, Mackafee is not a anti virus program. Its just a shield. U will still need another antivirus program. I second avast! If u want it, i would suggest super anti spyware, and JK defrag. Just my thoughts. Mike.

hmm, i use Avira's antivir classic (personal edition). This program ahs a good built in package for protection against viruses, dialers, trojans, joke programs, some spyware and even dangerous code found in plaintext files. updates itself every 2 to 3 days. It is fairly accessible and requires minimal user intervention. You can get it at free-av.com . It even detects the so called "sapi virus" which most antivirus won't remove. It also is able to scan directories, hard drives and removable media devices just using the context menu. The program can be read with the jaws cursor but most importantly its functions can be worked throught eh use of context menus or your pc cursor.

Might be just a shield to you, but that plus Windows firewall plus Windows Defender's a deadly combination. I can run on all 4 cylinders for nearly a year without picking up a virus. and yes, it is a virus program or we'd've gone for something else. Besides, it came withour Sky Broadband.

Also NOD32 from http://eset.com is another option. This runs nicely, and doesn't hog resources.

Thanks a lot to all of you. Someone gave me nod32 for free but I wasn't able to install it yet maybe I'll do it later. Is it accessible with jaws and is it very effective? I only use advance windows care personal now and antivirus 2008. Thanks!

I used avast for a while and though it work fine for a while I have not been getting any anti virius definisions in a while. I usualy get a notification when the database has been updated, but I am no longer getting that. Any way I tried to uninstall it and installed avg free which worjks fine. I am not sure why but avast removed itself from the programs and featurres, but it is still in my system tray. I have to disable it manualy and even doing so it shows up in the system tray. Any ideas?

va3ets, what version of nod32 are you using? This September, I planned on renewing for the third time, but I heard version 3.0 isn't very screen reader friendly.

Any thoughts?

First, Sweet Strawberry, if you are using Antivirus 2008, you probably want to remove it ASAP. Antivirus 2008 itself is a scam. . It purports to be antivirus software. It even looks impressive when it scans, finding results that no other programs find; but in reality, the program itself is malware. more info here:

As for legitimate antivirus programs, a number of very good ones have already been mentioned in this thread. Another one you might want to consider is vipr by Sunbelt Software, http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com. Vipr provides antivirus/ antispyware protection, and the nice thing is that it's very accessible with Jaws. We're currently evaluating it at work and may purchase a license for the office.

If your avast database isn't updating, you may need to update the program manually. Go to the Avast! on access protection icon in your system tray. Click it, go to updating submenu, and program updates. If the program updates, your computer may need to restart. Once this is done, antivirus database should update regularly again until another program update is required.

i thought about sunbelt's offering for anti virus, but have already got nod, try nod 32 and it is accessible with jaws, you just need to mouse about a bit and use the f5 key a bit too.

you can try windows live one care for free, i do find it very easy to use and has some nice features to it plus at the web sight it has a free safety scanner, a little tricky to use but i do believe it works. and the price is not bad
